Today is the 80th anniversary of the death of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Honored as founding father of this country, he is also founder of Asia鈥檚 first democracy. His Three Principles for the People served as the fundamental political foundation for the early Republic of China.
Dr. Sun Yat-sen helped overthrow the Qing dynasty, the last of its kind in China鈥檚 feudal era. He spent so much time in exile and suffered so many setbacks that he decided to take Russia and Communist Party as important allies in pursuing and achieving his goal of establishing a democratic republic.
But it is Mr. Mao Zedong who has finally united the mainland and founded the People鈥檚 Republic of China.
We devoted this edition of Dialogue to Dr. Sun Yat-sen in today鈥檚 program.
