Changes since I鈥檝e been here鈥

I first came to China in 1998 as a student and my first impression was NOT how I had imagined it to be! I guess it was because I had always watched movies set in Hong Kong that I thought China too would be covered from head to toe in neon lights! Boy was I wrong! Coming out from this desperate looking airport where we had to walk a long way along a dirt track once disembarking to get to passport control, was slightly off putting! But having said that, I got used to China and the way it was back then and now looking back am really glad that I was here at a time like that! Coming again in 2000 really gave me another shock!!! The airport was spotless鈥rand new, marble floors, a bus dropping me at the door to passport control鈥hat was happening鈥ad they taken me to another airport by mistake? No they hadn鈥檛鈥nd this was just proof of how quick and efficient the Chinese Government was at building new edifices. Now back again, things are as ever rapidly moving forward. Beijing has the Olympic Games, and with that title come shiny buildings, huge shopping malls and easier transportation around the city!
So it seems I wasn鈥檛 too far off with my original thoughts of her afterall!
