US helicopter shot down by Iraqi anti-aircraft fire

The Iraqi military said on Thursday a US helicopter was shot down by Iraqi anti-aircraft fire during US airstrikes against the country.

Earlier, the Qatar-base Al Jazeera satellite TV channel reported a US military helicopter crashed in southern Iraq on Thursday without casualties.

US officials were quoted as saying the special forces aboard the

helicopter were rescued.
