There are still shocks coming in the World Cup － co－hosts of the tournament South Korea put Italy out of the finals with a golden goal, while Japan were ousted by Turkey.
Turkey's midfielder, Umit Davala, headed in a corner kick in the 12th minute. This was enough to see the Turks through to the last eight. Despite pushing bravely for an equalizer in the rain of Miyagi, the co－hosts were unable to break down the stubborn Turks. Both Turkey and Japan have already made a history by advancing to the knock－out stages of the World Cup finals for the first time.
A sea of red greeted Italy as they took on home side, South Korea. In a fierce first half the physical Italians gave away a penalty, which South Korea missed, before Vieri's 18th minute header put them one up at the break.
A full blooded second half ensued, with a hat－full of chances squandered by both sides. But, comes the hour, comes the man. Seol Ki Hyeon leapt on a defensive error two minutes from the ninety minute mark － equalizing and sending the match into extra time. In the 117th minute Ahn Jung－Hwan headed a golden goal to put the Asians in the last eight.
Now that the second round has been played and all 8 of the quarter－final berths have been filled. Fans will have two days of rest before they can watch one of the most enticing games is the encounter between England and Brazil on Friday － Later in the day Germany takes on the United States. On Saturday, Spain will meet South Korea before Senegal plays Turkey.
