England defender Rio Ferdinand has been credited with the goal that gave England a fifth minute lead in their 3-0 routing of Denmark in Saturday's World Cup second round game, FIFA spokesman Keith Cooper said on Sunday.
"We have no doubt that it wasn't an own goal but should be credited to Rio Ferdinand,” said Cooper.
"We felt there was sufficient positive impetus from Ferdinand's action that he should have the goal," Cooper said.
5 minutes into Saturday's match, a corner from captain David Beckham cause panic in the Danish 6 yard box. Ferdinand's header at the back post was off-target but goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen fluffed his attempt to gather, inadvertently fumbling the ball into the net.
