Lifted by a loud, emotional home crowd, South Korea managed to draw one-all against the United States. Ann Jung-hwan's 78th minute goal leveled the score in the day's first Group D match. In group H, there was another ONE-ALL draw as Tunisia came back from behind to cancel out a Belgian goal. Both scores came in the first half of a nervous but lackluster game. In the other group D match, Portugal beat Poland 4-0 on Portugal's national day which also coincided with coach Antonio Oliveira's 50th birthday. As a result, Poland have been eliminated from the finals.
Cheered on by an electrified crowd who turned the stands red with South Korean jerseys, second-half substitute Ann Jung-hwan headed a free kick into the top left-hand corner for the Korean equalizer. In the first half of the game, US striker Clint Mathis had put the United States into the lead in the 24th minute when he latched onto a long pass from midfield and fired it over South Korean keeper Lee Woon-jae. South Korea and the USA now have four points apiece.
In the day's group H match.,Belgian midfielder Marc Wilmots used his penalty box sharpness to make contact with a headed ball across the goal in the 13th minute, giving his side a 1-nil lead. However, Tunisia's defender Raouf Bouzaiane leveled the score three minutes later by striking home a brilliant free kick.
In the other group D match, Portugal's Pauleta scored a hat-trick against Poland to bring his side a step closer to the second round in a crucial 4-0 victory. Second half substitute Rui Costa got the fourth for Portugal in the 88th minute. .
