El Hadji Diouf of Senegal was reportedly to have signed a five-year contract with English premier league giant Liverpool.
"I'm delighted to be joining Liverpool. Liverpool are a club that expects to be one of the best in Europe," Diouf was quoted by Liverpool's web site as saying.
Liverpool spokesman Ian Cotton on the web site: "We can confirm that African Footballer of the Year El Hadji Diouf has now signed a five-year deal with Liverpool, which is wonderful news for everyone at the club."
Diouf, now plays for French first division team Lens, put up a superb performance in Senegal's heroic World Cup win over defending champions France.
