Although Costa Rica World Cup soccer team's striker Winston Parks missed practice in Seongham, South Korea, on Friday with tonsillitis, he was expected to be ready for the June 4 opener against China.
The squad's head coach Alexandre Guimaraes said Friday that another star striker Paulo Wanchope would also be playing against China, eliminating any doubts about his health.
Wanchope, who has battled long-term knee injuries, said that he's ready to go.
In the case of Winston Parks, Guimaraes said he was not likely to miss the opening match. Team doctor Willy Galvez said Parks would be back in practice on Saturday.
Costa Rica have been drawn in Group C of the May 31-June 30 Korea-Japan 2002 World Cup finals, alongside China, Turkey and Brazil.
