Sepp Blatter has been re-elected FIFA president, beating a strong opposition who accused the Swiss lawyer of taking the world soccer body to the brink of bankruptcy.
Voting for the president of FIFA began on Wednesday in Seoul. Current President Sepp Blatter won 139 votes to beat African soccer chief Issa Hayatou, who got 56, at the FIFA congress.
Earlier, the congress had spent much of the morning discussing allegations of financial irregularity, with the debate becoming quite heated at times. Delegates booed and slow clapped Blatter following his refusal to let his chief accuser, FIFA General-Secretary Michel Zen-Ruffinen, take the podium.
Blatter was eventually forced to concede, enabling Ruffinen to criticize the apparent lack of transparency in Blatter's administration.
After the voting, Blatter pledged to restore unity and credibility to the organization.
