藏羚羊--一种美丽而神秘的濒危动物，仅见于中国的青藏高原，它生性机敏，难于捕获。藏羚羊对人类来说是一种十分陌生的动物，到目前为止，世界上任何动物园或者动物研究机构都没有饲养或者展出过这种动物，如果不到藏羚羊的生存地，可以说世界上没有人见过这种动物的活体。其原因是在很大程度上和这种动物生存的环境有关系，它生活在一块被称作人类生命禁区的土地上，千百年来，正是由于人的生命难以接近，也就使得这种动物能够在远离人类的地方一代代生存、繁衍。然而到了二十世纪末，这种动物开始遭到灭绝性的屠杀。很长时间以来，藏羚羊毛作为制作围巾或披肩的高级原料，弥足珍贵。被称做“沙图什”的藏羚羊毛披肩是发达国家的富人和世界顶级时装设计师眼中的珍品，一件“沙图什”在国际市场上可以卖到一万一千英镑。尽管中国当地的志愿者努力保护，国家颁布的“动物保护法”逐步完善，但藏羚羊在“无人区”里还是难逃厄运。本片纪录了这种美丽而神秘的濒危动物---藏羚羊的悲惨故事。

This film tells a tragic story of the beautiful but endangered animal-Tibetan antelope. This elusive animal is found only on the Tibetan plateau in China, where the harsh condition makes it a "forbidden zone" for human beings. However, the animal's wool called Shahtoosh has become the prize of top fashion designers and the rich of the developed world. During a long period, the origin of the Tibetan antelope shawl has been quite a tale. In spite of great efforts of local volunteers and the gradual improvement in CITES, the animal can not avoid the miserable destiny.
