清朝末年，戊戌变法之前，翁同和作为光绪皇帝的老师极力推荐维新变法先锋康有为，推动维新变法。以慈禧皇太后、荣禄为代表的保守势力对内反对维新，对外卖国投降，遭到翁同和的反对。
由于反对对外投降，推行变法，支持光绪皇帝，翁同和终于被慈禧太后革职。

It was at the 1890s, when the world was heading for a new century while the Qing Dynasty is coming down.
Wong was not only the royal teacher, but also an innovator. He believed that modern education and political system could help the country out of troubles home and abroad and revive the nation. Wong introduced the Emperor some innovationists with new concept, attempting to persuade him making political reformation.
But they didn't match the conservationists headed by the Queen Mother Ci Xi and Prime Minister Rong Lu. At last, Wong was removed from his post.
